Book Review: Diary of a Drug Fiend by Aleister Crowley

There was no need for us to speak. C 24 The Diary of a Drug Fiend conscious of all that was going on around her, absolute mistress of herself and of her environment ; yet at the same time she was lost in some unearthly form of rapture of a kind which, while essentially unintelligible to me, reminded me of certain strange and fragmentary experiences that I had had while flying.

A tall old man was standing on the steps. Some of the passages are so extraordinary that you may find yourself re-reading them over and over. Remember, the Russian Easter is not the same time as our Easter. We took everything in our stride.

I must drhg over it, trample it under my feet. The annoyance had grown until he had got into the ifend of drinking a good deal more and a good deal more often than a lesser man might have needed. He was very enthusiastic about putting through a law for suppressing the evil of drugs. We never got tired. As a matter of fact, there was a very curious reaction in the whole party. My mind seethed with questions. Nothing would suit her mood but that we should dine up there in the room, so that she could wear the new kimono and dance for me at dinner.

He was an old man who had lived for years out of the world.

The sense of our superiority to mankind was constantly present. It was an octave to cocaine ; the same invigorating spiritual force expressed in other terms.

Let him enter in turn or at once the four gates; let him stand on the floor of the palace. On one side the dark crimson tides of electricity; on the other, the stainless splendour of our satellite. I disliked his easy hospitality as much as anything else.

I found myself in the middle of the floor without knowing how I had got there. After trying to read the purposefully nonsensical druy of Lies,” I thought I’d start with something a little more “enjoyable” – Diary of a Drug Fiend.

I had a sudden aleistr sense of the bestiality of marriage. We had called on Gretel and obtained a supply of cocaine. At sixty years of age he was still the most savage and implacable of publicists. The book is about a man who on a night out meets a lady and is then introduced to cocaine. I had to re-read his description of the woman called Lou several times. However, the gods have their own ideas.

I certainly was feeling tired. I thought I would stand myself a little dinner. I always picked you for a winner.

The diary of a drug fiend Aleister Crowley

Before all things, decorum! My progress was beyond my utmost hopes and I found myself forced to begin several lawsuits.

Certain advantages of a cocaine honeymoon are frankly presented. I was a little out of the shortest line for Paris. He lay there whimpering. Crowley is less annoying to read than DeSade, but they’re both crap writers who care more about shocking readers and beating them over the heads with their worldview than writing a good story.

The Diary of a Drug Fiend –

If you go in for this kind of egoism masquerading as philosophy, you’ll find it dispensed in much more readable fashion in Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land.

I woke to find myself sitting in the Cafe Wisteria once more. I was all the possibilities of Feeling fulfilled to the uttermost.

His quick intuition had understood that this strange in ident w as S quietmg to us.
